Membership for All

The Blair Regional YMCA’s Financial Assistance Policy declares that no qualified individual will be denied access or participation due to the inability to pay established fees. Assistance is offered based on the participant’s inability to pay and the YMCA’s ability to fund the subsidy. Applications are available to all and are processed in a confidential and respectful manner.

The Blair Regional YMCA has always offered financial assistance to those who qualify according to federal poverty guidelines, or are financially strapped due to extenuating circumstances. While this has proven effective in helping many people gain access to the YMCA, we have found that many more in our community, especially families with children, still can’t afford a membership due to the high cost of living, but don’t meet federal poverty guidelines.

Guided by the principles of our Mission, we believe that a strong sense of ownership and pride is developed when a person contributes to the cost of their YMCA involvement.  It is with this in mind, that we recommend a sliding fee scale.

Membership for All provides a sliding fee scale based on total household income and number of dependents in the household. The scale is designed for those whose gross annual income is less than $50,000.

*All membership categories are subject to a $35.00 Association fee due at the time of enrollment

Family Membership consists of one or two adults and any dependent children under the age of 22 years residing in the same household and/or children under the age of 24 if they are attending college.

Adult Membership pertains to individuals 22 years of age or older, or upon graduation from formal education.

Youth Membership pertains to individuals under the age of 22.

Getting Started

To process Membership for All applications, the applicant must provide at least one of the following:

  • A copy of their most recent tax return
  • A copy of applicant’s last two consecutive pay stubs
  • A copy of public aid documentation (food stamps, cash assistance)
  • A copy of applicant’s social security or disability check (or proof of direct deposit)
  • Unemployment/Workmen’s compensation

All applicants must also complete a Membership for All application, available at the Welcome Center.

The application is reviewed by the Membership Department. Upon verification of income, the fee level is determined and the applicant is notified.  If the member feels that the determined rate is still unaffordable, consideration of their overall situation will be taken into account to ensure that membership to the YMCA is accessible to all.

In order to maintain a Membership for All subsidy, members will need to provide verification of household income on an annual basis. Renewal notices will be sent 45 days prior to expiration.  If the Member does not provide the proper documentation to continue the discounted rate, the membership will either expire, or upon agreement, will renew at the current published rate.
